Professor Gail Kinman, who is Director of the University’s Research Centre for Applied Psychology, was one of 43 social scientists across the UK to receive the award, in recognition of the excellence and impact of their work through the use of social science for public benefit.

Prof Kinman said: “I am delighted and honoured to receive a Fellowship from the Academy of Social Sciences. I received it in recognition of my long-standing research and practice in improving work-related wellbeing in occupations that are emotionally demanding, such as social workers, healthcare professionals and prison officers.”

The panel of judges noted that Prof Kinman had made ‘a strong and innovative contribution to policy and practice within the field of wellbeing at work.’

The new Fellows are drawn from academics, practitioners and policymakers across the social sciences who demonstrate substantial contributions and leadership in various fields, including higher education, social, economic and environmental policy, government, law, charitable foundations and think tanks.

“I collaborate with many talented and dedicated researchers and practitioners within psychology and the social sciences more generally and look forward to making new connections in the Academy,” said Prof Kinman.

The Academy of Social Sciences is the national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners in the social sciences. Its mission is to promote social science in the UK for the public benefit.
