A student from the University of Bedfordshire has spoken about how her study journey has prepared her for a career in the STEM field.

With Clearing open until early October, now is the time to take that leap. Whether you’re passionate about a particular subject or exploring new opportunities, the University of Bedfordshire can help you take the next step in your journey. Electronic Engineering student Ayesha Chowdhury has also juggled her studies with a leadership role with the University’s Students’ Union.

I’m in my final year studying Electronic Engineering (BSc Hons). I chose this course because I’ve always been curious about how systems work — from circuits and sensors to real-world applications like embedded controls. I wanted a field that was both hands-on and forward-looking, especially with the global push towards automation and electrification

My favourite part of being a student at the University of Bedfordshire has been the wide range of opportunities outside the classroom. My time at Bedfordshire has really helped me grow in confidence and adaptability. I’ve been very involved through my role as a Faculty Officer for the Students’ Union, where I organised engineering workshops and cultural events that brought together students from different schools.

I’m excited to build a career that combines my technical background in electronics with dynamic, people-focused environments. I’d love to work in roles that involve live shows, entertainment tech, or innovative systems. Most of my real preparation has come from pushing myself through extracurricular roles, workshops, and taking on leadership outside of class.

I’d say really look beyond just the course title — check what support, activities and growth opportunities the university offers outside of lectures. That’s often where you build the most confidence and skills. Also, trust your gut about where you feel you’ll fit in best, not just the rankings.
