Tue 18 November, 2025
The University of Bedfordshire’s on-campus community radio station, Radio LaB, is celebrating its most successful year after winning an impressive six awards at the Student Radio Awards.
In a landmark achievement, the station scooped five awards including three Gold wins! The station also collected a bonus Creativity Award, highlighting the talent and innovation shown by its student managers and producers.
Radio LaB was successful in the following categories:
- Gold – Station Sound (on air jingles and trails, led by student Danielle Foley)
- Gold – Best Producer (Emma Stigter)
- Gold – Best News and Journalistic Programming (for Emma’s feature on pirate radio)
- Silver – Best Podcast Programming
- Bronze – Station Branding
- Bronze – Creativity Award (also for the pirate radio feature)
Terry Lee, Senior Tutor in Radio & Audio and co-ordinator of Radio LaB, said: “Earning Gold, Silver and Bronze across all five shortlisted categories underlines what a remarkable year this has been for Radio LaB and the students who power it. I’m so proud of them, particularly Dani and Emma for their outstanding contributions. Radio LaB is a student-led, real-world media environment where ideas come to life – and that’s exactly the kind of experience that makes our students industry-ready.”
Five students attended the ceremony – held at the O2 in London – to represent Radio LaB, joining hundreds of aspiring broadcasters and leading figures from across the radio industry.
Operating as a community radio station run by student volunteers, Radio LaB offers hands-on experience within a professional broadcast environment. Students have access to industry-standard studios and equipment on campus, supporting the University’s Career-Powered Education ethos – ensuring graduates leave not only with a degree but with the real-world skills, confidence, and professional networks needed to thrive in their chosen careers.
Radio & Audio student, Emma Stigter, added: “Breaking Radio LaB records at the Student Radio Awards and helping us win Golds has been a game-changer for me. Award recognition like this is a real ‘foot in the door' towards my goal of becoming a producer, and it shows what’s possible for students at Beds. It’s exciting to feel my media career beginning.”
This latest award success follows on from Radio LaB recently taking home three Community Radio Awards.
