Robert Keane

A previous Graduate of the University of Luton/Bedfordshire undertaken HND Business Information Technology, BSc Business Information Technology and MSc Computer Science.

As the Technical Service Manager I lead a team of technicians/demonstrators to support the schools infrastructure/hardware/software to ensure optimal performance of IT systems and ultimate client satisfaction. My working disciplines include Computer Science, Electronics and Automotive Engineering.

Strong ability to use wide variety of rapidly evolving system development and scripting tools including the ability to leverage vendor APIs; special emphasis is placed on knowledge and use of of a variety of programming languages (C, C++ C#, Java, SQL etc)

Maintain technology skills and knowledge in a rapidly-changing environment; including complexity generated by increased compliance and security requirements to manage a mixed range of computing environments (e.g. Windows, UNIX, Linux, Oracle servers).

Originally from a mechanical engineering field background in the areas of production, mechanical and quality assurance. Previous experience includes working as an engineering consultant within the motor industry.

I joined the Department in 1998 as a Demonstrator in Computing Science after which gaining promotion to Technical Support Officer within the School of Computer Science & Technology. Recent promotions to date are Senior Technician Demonstrator within the department followed by promotion to Technical Services Manager.

I'm a keen musician/songwriter which is something I have enjoyed for many years. Over the years whilst performing with various bands I worked as a session musician and have been privileged to have a number songs released as singles with various record companies.

I enjoy playing a varied range of instruments (Guitar, Bass, Keyboards) and have a strong interest in all aspects of music technology (Midi etc).

Teaching Areas

  • Extensive experience of Oracle up to Oracle 12C/Oracle APEX etc
  • Experience in Oracle database design and development.
  • Development experience in Configurator models, rules, and extensions. Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, database design and tuning.
  • Knowledge of object orientated analysis and design techniques.
  • Experience of Oracle application interfaces including ESQL, SQL Loader.
  • MS Access, MYSQL
  • Windows Server, various Linux packages plus familiarity with Solaris.
  • Programming Languages – C, C++, JAVA, SQL, Python

Research Interests

My principal research interests lie in the field of:

  • Cloud/Docker principles
  • Database Security
  • Data Modelling
  • CPD (Continuing Professional Development) which I became heavily drawn to whilst undertaking my MSc thesis.
