University of Bedfordshire Radio lecturer and podcast creator, Terry Lee, has launched a new series from his garden shed with his 7-year-old daughter.

The podcast, ‘Primrose and Terry: In the shed’ is produced by Primrose Lee and edited by Terry Lee, Senior Tutor in Radio and Audio in Bedfordshire’s School of Culture and Communications.

Terry explains: “Although Primrose is being set lots of tasks by her local lower school, Clophill St Mary’s, my wife Nell and I were keen to enable Primrose to direct some of her own learning.

“Nell also works in outdoor education, amongst other things she is a Forest School practitioner, so participant-led practice was always what we were aiming for. When I suggested to Primrose that I had some recording equipment and that we could make a podcast series, she was instantly keen.”

Primrose said: “I wanted to do a podcast with Daddy because I wanted to do something for other people to listen to.

“I know listening to radio and podcasts brings people happiness; it does for me. I like hearing silly stories and music – that inspired our shed podcast.”

Just like her dad, Terry explains that Primrose enjoys listening to radio and podcasts. Terry runs the University’s community radio station, Radio LaB 97.1fm, which has just had its broadcasting license extended until 2025.

He also hosts and produces the podcast ‘Fantastic Noise’, which celebrates all things radio. Two of Primrose’s favourite podcasts formed the basis of the ‘Family Audio’ episode of the podcast - The Story Pirates podcast and Fun Kids radio.

Terry continues: “Primrose is an only child but is also really sociable, so one of the reasons for starting this podcast is to develop and nurture her communication skills and keep her connected to friends, family and a wider audience.

“As well as recording the podcast episodes, Primrose also chooses the topics we discuss, the guests we speak with, and played the music we use as our theme tune and idents.”

In episode one of the podcast, the duo discuss their home-village of Clophill, Terry's job at the University of Bedfordshire and Scottish accents.
