Socio-Economic Impact Review of the University of Bedfordshire
Higher Education contributes significantly to the UK economy, generating around £27 billion in national exports. However, its true value extends far beyond economic metrics. Through Knowledge Exchange—the collaborative process connecting cutting-edge research with real-world challenges—universities not only prepare graduates for the workforce but also drive innovation, inform policy, and improve lives. This process spans partnerships with businesses, public services, and community groups, creating broad societal and economic benefits. Due to its diverse nature, a robust evaluation of Knowledge Exchange must be independently conducted and anchored to specific time periods to ensure accurate benchmarking.
To better understand our own impact, the University of Bedfordshire commissioned Cambridge Policy Consultants to carry out a local study, complementing a national Knowledge Exchange review by London Economics. This report evidences the tangible outcomes of our collaborative work, aligning with the priorities outlined in the UK’s Invest 2035: Modern Industrial Strategy. Through initiatives like Transforming Bedfordshire, and in line with our Research and Innovation Strategy, we’ve built strong partnerships with local authorities, businesses, and civic bodies.
We are thrilled to present the University's Socio-Economic Review, published in 2025, and invite you to read it below.
