External Examiners play a fundamental role in assuring academic standards by providing an external perspective on academic standards, student achievement and the conduct of the assessment process at the University of Bedfordshire.

The Undergraduate and Postgraduate Schemes have two levels of formal decision making on student progression and awards: Portfolio Boards and Scheme Boards.
In addition internal Boards, known as Student Attainment and Review (StAR) Boards, provide a means for monitoring student engagement and attainment, and preparing grades and decisions for consideration by Portfolio Boards.
