Staff

  • Professor Jenny Pearce is Founder and Joint Director of the International Centre. Jenny is currently developing the international work of the Centre, leading an UNESCO Initiative to develop international partnerships for the prevention of sexual violence against children.
  • Dr Helen Beckett is Joint Director of the International Centre. Prior to joining the University in September 2011, Helen spent ten years in child and youth-related policy and research, across academia and the statutory and voluntary sectors.
  • Claire Cody is a Research Fellow, project managing the Oak Foundation funded 'Our Voices' project. Prior to joining the University in November 2013 Claire was based at the Centre for Rural Childhood, UHI where she worked on a project exploring the recovery and reintegration of children affected by sexual exploitation and related trafficking internationally
  • Fiona Factor works across the International Centre and the wider Institute of Applied Social Research, supporting young people's participation and developing the work of ETC (Evaluation, Training and Consultancy)
  • Carlene Firmin is a Senior Research Fellow and Head of the MsUnderstood project. Prior to joining the University in August 2013, Carlene was Principal Policy Advisor to the Office of the Children's Commissioners Inquiry into child sexual exploitation in gangs and groups, having spent eight years researching gender-based violence, gang-related offending and child protection.
  • Dr Julie Harris is a Principal Research Fellow, project managing the Hub and Spoke Evaluation. Prior to joining the university in September 2013, Julie was Assistant Director for research and evaluation at Barnardo's, with a particular specialism in CSE and child trafficking.
  • Dr Lucie Shuker is a Senior Research Fellow, who leads on the policy and dissemination work of the International Centre as part of the Hub and Spoke project team.
  • Roma Thomas is Research Fellow in international social development, leading on the development of the Masters in International Social work and social development and working on the FCASE project. Prior to joining the University in 2012, Roma ran her own consultancy business for nine years, specialising in communications and project management, working for clients in the public, private and voluntary sector.
  • Dr Debi Roker is a Senior Research Fellow working on the Hub and Spoke Evaluation.
  • Dr Camille Warrington is a Senior Research Fellow and Youth Participation Development Manager for the International Centre and wider Institute of Applied Social Research.
  • Helen Veitch is Oak Fellow on Children's Participation in Preventing Sexual Violence (part-time). The role of Oak Fellow is a collaboration between the Oak Foundation and the International Centre: researching child sexual exploitation, violence and trafficking.
  • Dr Debra Allnock is a Senior Research Fellow project managing the CSE and Policing Knowledge Hub and working across related criminal justice projects
  • Dr Isabelle Brodie is a Senior Research Fellow working on the Participation strand of the Hub and Spoke project.
  • Dr Kate D'Arcy is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Centre
  • Tooba Saeed is Administrator for the International Centre.
