Requests for Letters
We do not normally provide letters for students who present for a first session and ask us to support a Mitigating Circumstances claim.
There are exceptional circumstances when it may be appropriate to provide a letter as evidence for a student who presents for the first time. For example, if there has been unexpected bereavement in the immediate family around the affected period of study or they have been the victim of a serious crime.
Students should request an appointment with a counsellor if they believe exceptional circumstances apply and you would like to discuss their situation.
Current Counselling clients
Letters are provided for students who attend the service for counselling. The letter will confirm that the student has attended counselling with the dates and the number of sessions attended. We can also include a brief statement of the presenting issue e.g. low mood, anxiety.
This information will only be released when you have given written permission by completing a request form - DOCX 31.7 KB
Students can request the letter as an email (to university email address only) or in paper format.
Letters in support of a claim for mitigating circumstances
It is the student’s responsibility to submit the evidence with the claim form to the Mitigation Team.
While we try to make sure requests for letters are dealt with as quickly as possible, students must allow at least 5 working days for requests to be processed.
