Cawleys, a Luton based waste management and recycling company, are working with the University on creating an integrated system.

On average, the UK produces 200 million tonnes of waste per year. Environmental concerns mean that we need to be able to recycle as much of this waste as possible. Sorting through this waste leads to intense pressure on machinery and equipment, which needs to be maintained in top condition to ensure safety of the operator, and to endure the difficult conditions.

Cawleys, a Luton based waste management and recycling company, enlisted the help of the University to research a solution that would allow the operator to record basic safety checks, defects and conditions.

The solution would need to be accessible anywhere, whether on a computer, tablet, or phone, and would allow maintenance managers to identify and fix problems efficiently.

A complete log of equipment repair would enable management to determine the health of the machine and replace equipment before a failure takes place.
