Three University of Bedfordshire courses have been endorsed for a second time by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

BASES has awarded the five-year long endorsements to Bedfordshire’s BSc (Hons) courses in Sport Science & Coaching, Sport Science & Personal Training and Sport & Exercise Science. This endorsement reinforces the quality of teaching and course content, ultimately making these courses highly attractive to prospective students.

Professor Richard Tong, Chair of BASES, congratulated Bedfordshire on the five-year endorsement renewal:

The BASES Undergraduate Endorsement Scheme (BUES) is the recognised standard for all sport and exercise science undergraduate degree programmes in the UK, and I personally congratulate the University of Bedfordshire on the success of its recent application.

The panel who review all applications carefully considers the curriculum, the practical experience gained by students and the resources and facilities of the institution and it is pleasing to see three of the University’s courses endorsed until August 2025.

Well done, and best wishes to all students undertaking those undergraduate degree courses.

Since 2005, these endorsements have been given to sport and exercise science degree courses at UK universities that meet a certain number of criteria in regards to providing undergraduates with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed for entering the profession.

Discussing the achievement, Dr Andrew Mitchell, Associate Dean in the Faculty of Education and Sport at the University’s Bedford campus, said:

We are delighted with the news that these three courses have been endorsed by BASES once again.

I am grateful for the hard work of my team of academics that put together the documentation for the successful application and I am excited for our students on these courses as we support them on their academic journey and prepare them for graduate roles in Sport & Exercise Science.

Curriculum, practical experience opportunities and the educational institution’s resources and facilities are all considered as part of the endorsement process. Juliet Fern, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education and Sport, is proud that the courses have met all the necessary requirements for endorsement. She said:

I am delighted that the School of Sport Science and Physical Activity has had their professional body accreditation renewed by BASES.

Dr Andrew Mitchell has worked with the whole staff team to ensure that our courses are endorsed by nationally recognised bodies. This ensures that our courses remain current, provide our students with excellent teaching and placement opportunities, and prepare students for their graduate careers.
